Previous ADVANCE Administrative Fellows (2011-2014)

During the period of the NSF ADVANCE Grant, the ADVANCE Administrative Fellows program provided opportunities for women STEM faculty at the associate or full professor level to serve in administrative positions housed in the offices of the Provost, the Deans of targeted colleges, the Vice President for Research, the Vice President and Associate Provost for Diversity, and the Dean of Faculties. Fellows were seelcted based on a proposed project, jointly developed by the faculty member with the college or administrative office.  The positions were jointly funded by the ADVANCE Center and the host office. 

Between 2011 and 2014, ten women were appointed as ADVANCE Administrative Fellows.  The list below indicates their faculty title at the time they were appointed as an ADVANCE Administrative Fellow, their fellow title, and their current position. 
 

2011


Gerianne Alexander was a Professor of Psychology at the time she was selected as an ADVANCE Administrative Fellow and appointed as the Associate Dean for Research in the College of Liberal Arts. In 2018, she was appointed as the Associate Vice President for Research at Texas A&M University.

Clare Gill was a Professor of Animal Science at the time she was selected as an ADVANCE Administrative Fellow and appointed as the Associate Vice President for Diversity. In 2019, Gill was appointed as the Executive Associate Dean for Research in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. 

Blanca Lupiani was an Associate Professor of Veterinary Pathobiology at the time she was selected as an ADVANCE Administrative Fellow and appointed as an Associate Dean of Faculties. Dr. Lupiani is currently at the rank of full professor.  In 2019, she was appointed as the Dean of Faculties at Texas A&M University.  

 

2012


Mary Bryk was an Associate Professor in Biochemistry and Biophysics at the time she was selected as an ADVANCE Administrative Fellow and appointed as an Assistant Provost. She is currently the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. 

Rosana Moreira was a Professor and Assistant Department Head in the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering at the time she was selected as an ADVANCE Administrative Fellow and appointed as an Assistant Provost. She continued to serve as an Assistant Provost for Recruitiing and Student Success for several years.

Heather Wilkinson was an Associate Professor of Plant Pathology and Microbiology at the time she was selected as an ADVANCE Administrative Fellow and appointed as an Assistant Provost.  She was appointed as Associate Dean of Faculties in 2017.

 

2013


Ginger Carney was an Associate Professor of Biology at the time she was selected as an ADVANCE Administrative Fellow and appointed as the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Research in the College of Science. She then served as Associate Dean for Assessment and College Climate for several years before leaving Texas A&M in 2017 to accept a position as Dean of the College of Science at the University of Idaho. 

 

2014


Deborah Bell-Pedersen was a Professor of Biology at the time she was selected as an ADVANCE Administrative Fellow and appointed as the Associate Department Head of Operations for Biology. She has continued to serve as the Associate Department Head of Operations.

Elbert Chanda was an Associate Professor of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication at the time she was appointed as an ADVANCE Administrative Fellow and appointed as the Assistant Provost in the Office for Graduate and Professional Studies. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication.

Teresa Wilcox was a Professor of Psychology at the time she was selected as an ADVANCE Administrative Fellow and appointed as an Assistant Provost in the Office for Graduate and Professional Studies. She later served as a Research Fellow in the Division of Research and as the Graduate Student Ombudsperson. In 2018, she accepted a position as the Chair of Psychology at Florida Atlantic University.
